Upgrade to a compliant EFTPOS terminal

A nationwide phase-out of EFTPOS terminals using older security standards is nearly complete. Any remaining devices using the PCI 4.x security standard are now non-compliant and subject to disconnection from the payments network.

Why you have to upgrade

Payments NZ set a sunset date for PCI 4.X EFTPOS devices to ensure all payment terminals in NZ operate on secure, up-to-date technology.

PCI 4.X devices have been flagged for:

  • Weaker PIN protection

  • Limited firmware updates

  • Higher risk of data theft

  • Less secure authentication

Newer devices are built to address these issues and better protect your customers’ card data.

What happens now

The 30 April 2026 deadline has passed. If you are still using a PCI 4.x device you may experience:

  • Delays securing a new terminal
  • Increased pressure on installation timeframes
  • Disconnection from the payment network leaving you unable to process payments

Secure your upgrade

We have a limited number of upgrade slots available for new customers seeking an upgrade.  Complete the form and an EFTPOS expert will get in touch.
